A Florida state trooper was shot and killed Friday while in Port Au Prince, Haiti, Florida Highway Patrol said.

Trooper Jean Barthelus was an 8 year veteran of the FHP and was assigned to Troop E in Miami.

He is survived by his wife, daughter, mother and several brothers and sisters.

FHP did not say why Barthelus was in Haiti or release any other circumstances surrounding his death.
