Firefighters battle blaze in vacant home
Officials believe transients trying to keep warm started fire
Daytona Beach firefighters were called out to the 300 block of Kingston Avenue for a reported residential structure fire just before 8 a.m. on Saturday.
Firefighters said when they got on scene, crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the home.
Fire crews made their way into the structure through the front door and fought the fire from the inside to prevent fire from spreading, officials said.
After the initial knock down and control of the fire, fire crews discovered that the fire was inside a wood frame addition to house, firefighters said.
Firefighters said the home was vacant.
Firefighters believe that transients in the neighborhood may have had a fire going last night to keep warm from the overnight cool temperature and left the fire unattended.
No injuries were reported on scene and the actual cause of the fire is still undetermined at this time. Fire crews estimate the fire caused about $30,000.00 worth of damages, firefighters said.
