First panel successfully removed from Downtown's 'Round Building'
Construction crews removed the panel as a test
The first panel has been successfully removed from Downtown Orlando's iconic "Round building."
The Round Building sits on property designated for the Dr. Philips Performing Arts Center campus and is scheduled for demolition.
Plans are in place to reuse the pre-cast concrete panels that surround the building and use them as a muli-function outdoor art installment on city property.
It took workers from Cornerstone Construction in Orlando half a day and the use of a crane to remove the fragile 20-foot-tall section. The removal was done as a test to see if the pieces could be taken off without damage. The piece is now being stored at a city storage yard.
It's estimated that it will take 2-3 weeks to remove all the panels once work begins. No date has been set for demolition.
