ORLANDO, Fla. -

Florida Hospital is the best in the area and second best in the state according to US News & World Report.

The magazine surveyed nearly 10,000 specialists and sifted through data for approximately 5,000 hospitals to rank the best in 16 adult specialties, from cancer to urology.

Death rates, patient safety and hospital reputation were a few of the factors considered. Only 148 hospitals were nationally ranked in one or more specialties.

Florida Hospital was ranked nationally in seven categories.

"I feel blessed by the host of doctors, nurses, staff, volunteers and donors who spend every day living the mission of Florida Hospital," said President and CEO Lars Houmann.

Orlando Regional Medical Center ranked nationally in nine categories, but came in second to Florida Hospital for the regional distinction. ORMC ranked 24th in the state.
