If it seems like your home is suddenly under attack from fleas, termites, ants, and roaches--you're not alone.
Several Central Florida pest control companies tell Local 6 they have been extremely busy lately, handling homes with bug problems.
Adam Jones, Vice President of Quality Assurance at Massey services, explains why.
"Well I don't know it's a bug problem, as much as it's an earlier bug problem. We did have a warmer winter this year, and we had a fairly wet spring and we had a very wet April and May," said Jones. "So a lot of the insect activity we would normally see delayed until the rainy season is occurring a lot earlier this year than prior years."
Susan Kindred said she is "creeped out" by the recent Palmetto bugs she's seen in her College Park home.
"Gives me the creeps, 'cause kids will touch them, dogs will run after them, carry germs, I don't want 'em around," said Kindred."I go reach for anything I can find to spray them. Hair spray, anything, Windex!"
Jones said Massey Services attacks bugs on the outside by sealing up cracks, crevices, and openings, so bugs never make it inside.
"We can control the population outdoors, prevent it from getting indoors, so we may never have to apply a pesticide inside your structure, ever," said Jones.
If you're seeing insects in your home, home improvement and specialized pest control stores sell do-it-yourself chemicals and often will instruct you on how to apply the chemicals. Jones, however, suggests hiring a professional when handling pesticides.
