Intruder shoots homeowner in head in struggle over shotgun
Victim shot in garage at Holly Hill home
A Holly Hill homeowner suffered a lacerated scalp late Monday night in an altercation with a shotgun-wielding robber, according to police.
Holly Hill police said two men wearing bandanas over their faces approached a 45-year-old man who was working in his garage in the 700 block of Magnolia Avenue.
Police said one of the culprits pointed a sawed-off shotgun at the homeowner and said, "Give me all your money." The homeowner grabbed the shotgun and pushed it upward, and the gunman pulled the trigger, police said.
A shotgun pellet struck the homeowner in the forehead and lacerated his scalp, said police, who added that the man was treated for a minor wound at Halifax Hospital and later released.
After the struggle over the gun, both assailants ran to a sedan with a possible California license plate, police said.
The culprits were wearing dark clothing with blue bandanas over their faces.
Holly Hill investigators said they've recovered evidence from the crime scene which they believe will assist in identifying the suspects.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Holly Hill Police Department or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida at 888-277-TIPS.
