ORLANDO, Fla. -

More than 60 percent of kids in our community cannot afford lunch, let alone the supplies they need. So Local 6 is teaming up with A Gift For Teaching to make sure every student in Central Florida has the tools they need to succeed.

In many cases, devoted teachers spend between $500-$1,000 of their own money to buy supplies for students and classrooms. A Gift For Teaching is able to get free school supplies into the hands of our community's highest-need schools and classrooms providing necessary tools to students who otherwise would have none while making sure teachers don't have to spend their own money. They are able to turn a $1 donation into $10 worth of school supplies for students in Orange, Seminole and Osceola Counties.

You can make a donation to A Gift For Teaching here. Every $1 donated provides kids with $10 worth of supplies. You can donate over the phone by calling into the phone bank at 1-888-436-6665 through 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Local 6 is also offering another incentive to viewers willing to donate. Any viewer that donates $50 or more will be entered into a drawing for a "WKMG Experience," where a viewer and three guests will get a personal tour of the station, watch a live broadcast of Local 6 News at Noon and have lunch with WKMG talent.
