LegoLand Florida's New Land

Last week we told you how LegoLand was teasing and hinting about an "energizing" new addition to its park at the former Cypress Gardens in Winter Haven.

Today --the park announced its biggest addition since its opening in October, 2011: a new land based on its new franchise "LEGO Legends of Chima."

As you can see on the ad above "The World of Chima" is presented by Cartoon Network -- because CN is launching a new animated show based on Chima  -- and its world of mystical talking animals who band together in tribes and apparently fight a lot over an energy source called "Chi" (maybe these animals are all fluent in Chinese culture).

Here's what the entrance to this new realm will look like.

The expansion will center on a water ride called  the Quest for CHI, which LegoLand says: "Guests will enter The World of Chima through a fantastical stone and moss covered entrance which leads to the Lion Temple at the base of the majestic 45-foot tall floating Mount Cavora.... "

Hmmm -- a floating mountain is coming to Central Florida long before AvatarLand even breaks ground at Animal Kingdom.
Anyway -- on this ride, guests "join the Lion Tribe in an epic battle.... using water cannons to help their hero, Laval the Lion Prince, defeat Cragger the Crocodile King..... (other sites include) the Rhino Quarry, Raven's Roost, Eagle's Nest, Wolves Encampment, Gorilla Forest and Crocodile Swamp."

The other main attraction in this area is called the "Speedorz Arena"  where players build cars called  "LEGO Speedorz" then race them to win more "Chi" (not sure what your kids will do with the chi... but.... )

There will also be a 4D Chima movie at the park starting this summer -- but I believe this will not play in the new land -- but in an existing 4D theater near the park entrance. I believe it will be the same film shown at Its sister park in California.

Either way -- Kudos to LegoLand for continuing their momentum of expansion and new additions.  The park just celebrated the opening of its water park for a second season by doubling the number of bricks in the area.

Late last year -- the park added a Star Wars section to its miniland -- featuring all 6 Star Wars films and the now-canceled Clone Wars TV Series.

However --  LegoLand is talking up that this is the first time a "theme park has undergone a major expansion at the same time a new brand and product line are rolled out."
But really - this kind of thing is nothing new in the Theme World.
Disneyland had Sleeping Beauty Castle 4 years before the movie came out, and Animal Kingdom had "It's Tough to be a Bug" nearly a year before "A Bugs Life" hit theaters, and Animal Kingdom also renamed its "Countdown to Extinction" ride "Dinosaur" to tie in with the Disney animated film of the same name.

Speaking of Animal Kingdom -- We'll have more tomorrow from Disney on whispers and words of expansion plans -- and something new debuting for Annual Passholders.

Congrats, though to LegoLand -- for adding 150 construction jobs -- and 50 permanent jobs when "The World of Chima" opens this summer.

We will keep you posted.
