Longwood mother found high on crack with baby in car, police say
Aurelia Kambic faces drug, child neglect charges
A Longwood mother was arrested Sunday after, police say, she was found smoking crack in her car while her baby was in the back seat.
Aurelia Kambic was arrested in the Big Lots parking lot on U.S. 17-92 and State Road 434.
According to police, customers called authorities saying there was a woman in a car who appeared to be high on drugs. Officers say they found Kambic disoriented and holding a crack pipe.
The baby's father was contacted, who said he could not pick up the child because he was at work, according to a police report.
The child was placed in the care of the Florida Department of Children and Families.
The child did not test positive for drugs and was later allowed to be released into the father's custody.
Kambic was arrested on child neglect and drug charges. She was taken to the Seminole County jail.
While at the jail, Kambic complained of stomach pains and was transported to South Seminole Hospital, police said.
The hospital staff asked Kambic to provide a urine sample for medical reasons, police said, and she went into the restroom and returned with a sample, which turned out to be water.
Kambic was medically cleared and was taken back to jail.
