Longwood shooter hits man behind intended target
Yachua Castro-Maysonet booked into jail
Longwood police arrested a man who shot at his intended target and missed, instead hitting the man's brother.
Officers say 23-year-old Yachua Castro-Maysonet was pounding on the door of the victim's home just before 11:30 p.m. on Sunday. Castro-Maysonet and the victim's brother began shouting at each other at the door.
Police believe the argument was over a woman.
During the argument, officers say Castro-Maysonet pulled out a handgun and shot at the man. However, he missed the man he was arguing with and instead hit the man's brother, who was standing behind him.
Castro-Maysonet ran away from the home but was later found and arrested by Longwood officers. He was booked into the John E. Polk Correctional Facility in Seminole County.
Castro-Maysonet is charged with attempted second-degree murder.
The shooting victim was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center. Longwood police say he is expected to survive.
