MCSO: Man upset over Monday Night Football game shot at deputies
Richard Braccia arrested in Marion County shooting
A Central Florida man upset over the New York Giants losing to the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football fired shots at deputies who were called to his home, according to officials.
Richard Braccia, 50, of Silver Springs Shores, was arrested in the shooting, which occurred around 12:15 a.m. on Juniper Trail. He faces three counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, along with charges of domestic battery and tampering with a victim.
According to the Marion County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the home for a domestic disturbance.
A woman told the Sheriff's Office that her husband had been drinking, was upset over the game and was pushing her. She told deputies her husband was loading his guns in a bedroom and he said there was going "to be a shootout," according to officials.
As deputies arrived, Braccia began shooting at them, the Sheriff's Office said. The window of a deputy patrol car was shattered in the shooting, but no deputies were struck or injured.
Braccia then barricaded himself inside the home, but his wife was able to escape, deputies said.
The SWAT team was called, nearby homes were evacuated and Braccia surrendered sometime later, deputies said.
"It was just nuts it was like a movie, helicopters, armored vehicles-it was like a war zone," said neighbor Doug Aprea, who told Local 6 he was at home with his family when the shooting occurred.
He was arrested and taken to jail.
An investigation is ongoing.
