ORLANDO, Fla. -

The suspect who police say is responsible for shooting a 15-year-old girl in her family's van in Pine Hills says he is praying for her recovery.

Orlando police say 20-year-old Tyrone Mosby is responsible for the July shooting that left 15-year-old Danielle Sampson in a coma on life support. He is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, one for Sampson's injury and the second for his intended victim in the other car.

"Hey man, I hope she makes it through it, that's all I could say I pray for her," Mosby told Local 6 in a jailhouse interview.

Mosby was arrested almost a month after the shooting. Sampson's family told Local 6 over the phone on Tuesday that they wanted to ask Mosby why he never came forward.

Mosby responded to Local 6 by saying, "well Tyrone Mosby's family wants to know why you all are accusing him of something he didn't do."

Mosby had previously been arrested on charges of attempted murder, robbery and aggravated battery and had been in jail and juvenile detention around a dozen times, with the first time as a 14-year-old selling marijuana, records show.

When Local 6 asked Mosby about his past, he refused to answer and ended the interview.
