Man burned fighting Oviedo house fire
Homeowner tried to extinguish flames with garden hose
An Oviedo homeowner was burned when he tried to put out a fire -- using a garden hose -- that started in his living room.
Firefighters said they received a 911 call from the man before 1 a.m. Thursday.
Once the fire was discovered by the homeowner, he grabbed a garden hose and tried to extinguish the flames, according to firefighters.
"We always want to encourage folks (to) get out of the house," said Oviedo Fire Chief Lars White. "Go to a neighbor, get to a cellphone and call us first."
When emergency responders arrived at the home, they found smoke coming out of the front door and the homeowner, who suffered second-degree burns, inside.
The man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as firefighters worked to put out the fire.
Firefighter said it appeared the fire started in the living room of the home, but the state fire marshal will investigate the cause of the fire.
