Man wounded in Melbourne shooting, gunman unknown
Police looking for white Dodge Charger
Police are looking for a Dodge Charger seen near the scene of an early morning shooting that wounded one man in South Melbourne this morning, Local 6 news partner Florida Today reports.
“Officers were patrolling the area and did hear gunshots” coming from the intersection of Redbud Street and Testimony Street, Melbourne Police Sgt. Sheridan Shelley told Florida Today.
At the scene, officers found a 47-year-old man wounded, he said. The man was taken to a hospital for surgery, and Shelley said he did not know the man’s condition early Tuesday.
The shooting occurred about 3 a.m. in a neighborhood southwest of Stone Middle School off East University Boulevard. Police who arrived on the scene spotted a newer model white Dodge Charger they think could be connected to the shooting.
“The vehicle left at a very high rate of speed southbound into Palm Bay,” Shelley said. “At this time it’s unknown what the involvement is with this Dodge, but the occupants may have some information or may be involved.”
Shelley said a nearby home was struck by bullets but no other injuries were reported. He said investigators are working to determine a motive for the shooting.
Anyone who sees the vehicle of interest is asked to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477). Callers can remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward.
