Marion County deputy fired over alias Facebook account
Deputy used fake name, age, profession to meet woman, officials say
A Marion County sheriff's deputy has been fired on Wednesday after an internal investigation found he used an alias Facebook account to meet a woman and lied about his name, age and profession, according to a department release.
Deputy Jorge Velez, "provided a false name and age to the female once meeting her so as to benefit from this false information in a relationship," Sheriff Ed Dean wrote in a release. "The actions of Velez, while off duty, are a discredit to this agency and the occupation of deputy sheriff."
Velez was found to be in violation of a MCSO code of conduct in the internal investigation. No other details have been released.
