Miami-Dade wildfire grows to 100 acres
No homes in danger at this time, according to officials
Officials say a wildfire in western Miami-Dade County has grown to cover more than 100 acres.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue reports that the fire wasn't completely contained Monday evening, but it appeared to be slowing down.
Officials say the fire started Monday afternoon, just west of Florida's Turnpike. Strong winds helped the fire spread in a stand of highly flammable melaleuca trees. The cause the fire wasn't immediately clear.
The Miami Herald (http://bit.ly/Ho8R3W ) reports thick, black smoke rising into the air caused nearby traffic to slow.
The fire wasn't threatening any homes, and no injuries were reported.
