Mom Paints 'Lesbians Rock' On Van In School Protest
Mom Protests Son's School Referral By Painting Van
A Central Florida mom is fighting back after she said her son got into trouble at school for saying the word "lesbian."
VIDEO:
She protested it by painting "lesbians rock" on her van.
She said her son, Kevin, got into a fight with a girl in the lunchroom. She said the girl called Kevin "gay," then he called her a "lesbian."
Fitzgerald showed Local 6 the classroom referral the fifth grade teacher at Clarcona Elementary sent home.
Under the title "incident type," the teacher circled, "inappropriate language" on the referral sheet.
There was also an option for "harassment/teasing/bully."
Under the incident description the teacher wrote, "While in the lunchroom Kevin and another student got into a verbal altercation. During that time, Kevin called the student an inappropriate name. When told by the cafeteria adult supervisors to not speak to each other for the rest of the time, Kevin continued to speak to the other student."
"She started questioning him and asking him if he said a bad word at lunch that started with the letter 'l,''' Fitzgerald said.
Fitzgerald believes he should have gotten in trouble for name-calling, not for saying a "bad word."
The school district representative said they can't comment on any student's disciplinary record, but said they don't consider "lesbian" a bad word.
It's unclear if the girl who reportedly said the word "gay" also received a referral.
