Candice Carla Milam was arrested by Volusia County sheriff's deputies on charges of child abuse and battery.

According to police, two girls, ages 11 and 12, who attend New Smyrna Beach Middle School, got into a fight last month outside of the school.

Police said the fight was recorded by several students and later posted to Facebook.  Two videos were recovered by police and placed into evidence.

Police said Milam is the woman in the gray sweatshirt and ponytail in the video and that you can see her pushing and pulling her daughter to fight the other girl.

In the video, Milam is telling her daughter to hit the other girl and to pull the other girl's hair.

Milam then argues with another student trying to break up the brawl. Milam's 16-year-old son can even been seen jumping into the fight and pushing a girl.

Through an investigation, New Smyrna Beach police said it was discovered that Milam had been involved in the fight and appeared to have encouraged it.

Detectives said Milam continued to fight the students until other parents and teachers rushed over to break up the fight.

"The video shows it appears the girl did not want to be involved in the fight," Detective Eugene Griffith said.

Many parents said they are disturbed to know their children were exposed to such violence.

"Where was everyone? How did she get that close to another child and get violent?" said Lynette Baker, who's sons witnessed the fight.

A spokesman for the Department of Children and Families said the allegations are very disturbing and parents should not urge their children to fight each other.

John Harrell said DCF looked into any prior child abuse history, or Milam's prior criminal history. He said they are also investigating if there was a history between the two families.

Milam was arrested and taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail.  She's being held on $1,000 bond.
