CASSELBERRY, Fla. -

Casselberry police say a motorcyclist was hit by an oncoming SUV after the rider laid down his bike.

Police tell Local 6 the man crashed his motorcycle just after 11:30 p.m. on Thursday on U.S. Highway 17-92 near Live Oak Boulevard. Witnesses told officers the motorcyclist then stood up, took off his helmet and walked over one lane to gather himself.

Police say shortly after, a red SUV traveling on U.S 17-92 swerved to avoid the motorcycle left on the ground and hit the rider standing in the left lane.

The driver of the SUV stayed at the scene and gave a statement to police.

Officers say the identity of the motorcyclist will be released after they notify his family.
