No-swim order issued for Brevard Coutny Wickham Park lake
Residents are being advised not to swim in a Wickham Park lake after a test showed a high level of fecal bacteria in the water.
According to a news release from Brevard County Health Director Dr. Heidar Heshmati, the high levels of bacteria were discovered April 15 in samples of water taken from the park’s south lake. The park is at 2500 Parkway Drive in Melbourne.
Officials said the water will be re-tested on May 13. When the sample indicates the levels have returned to normal, the no-swim advisory will be lifted.
The pollution may have come from storm water runoff, pets and other wildlife or human waste, the release says. The tested levels indicate water may be unsafe for swimmers and could cause ear and eye ailments, skin rashes and infections.
