ORLANDO, Fla. -

Orlando International Airport has received permission to offer flights to Cuba.

In a statement sent to Local 6, Phil Brown, Executive Director of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, was notified Wednesday the airport's application had been approved by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection office.

"Orlando International Airport can now provide more convenient access to Cuba for Cuban-born residents in Central Florida," Brown said in the statement.  "This further positions Orlando International Airport for future service development opportunities."

There are no scheduled flights between Orlando and Cuba at this time.
