Ocala police: Father spilled hot drink on infant
Man charged with aggravated child abuse
Ocala police have arrested the father of a 5-month-old child on Tuesday after they say the child suffered third-degree burns while in the care of her father.
Jemal Morris, 19, has been charged with aggravated child abuse after they say he told authorities he spilled hot chocolate on the infant, then later said he spilled hot formula he heated in the microwave on the child.
It's not clear what Morris spilled on the child, but detectives said they found Morris caused the injuries to the infant, which included first, second and third degree burns to her mouth, buttocks, genitals and legs that were not possible to have been self-inflicted.
The child spent over a week in the hospital being treated for her injuries. Police said the child is now with her mother and is doing well.
