Authorities say an off-duty Citrus County deputy fatally shot a man during a burglary.
The sheriff's office reports that the deputy, who wasn't immediately named, was at his girlfriend's home Tuesday night when 28-year-old Derrick Vaccianna broke in.
Authorities say the deputy and his girlfriend apparently knew Vaccianna, and the home invasion was not random.
An argument turned into a physical fight, and the deputy shot Vaccianna.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died.
Because the shooting involved a deputy, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the State Attorney's Office are investigating.
