ORLANDO, Fla. -

The number of murders in Orange County is higher than in the first quarter of the two previous years.

The Orlando Sentinel reports there have been 19 murders between Jan. 1 and March 31. Nearly half remain unsolved.

Nine of the murders occurred in Orlando city limits. That's double the number of homicides in the same period in 2012.

The victims include a 21-year-old man killed in a drive-by shooting at an apartment complex and a 31-year-old man shot to death after he and his girlfriend were approached by two men in a parking lot.
