ORLANDO, Fla. -

An Orlando teenager is recovering from a rough fall after a truck hit him on his bicycle and sped off.

A red Ford F150 hit Brent Mead, 17, on Ashford Boulevard just before 8 p.m. Monday night.

Mead has a broken tibia, bone fragments in his ankle, 20 stitches in his thigh and 30 stitches in his heel.

"Right when I landed I knew something was really wrong," Mead said. "I thought he would stop, and he just kept going fast and I look up and he's gone."

Mead wasn't able to see a face or license plate number, but witnesses said the truck was speeding as it drove out of the neighborhood.

Mead's father said his son was driving in the bike lane and against traffic when he was hit.

"I know if there's a person out there that's willing to run down a child and leave them on the side of the road that's not a good person to be out there loose, and able to do it again," he said.

Mead said he must have surgery once his swelling goes down.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run or truck matching Mead's description is asked to call the Orlando Police department at 407-246-2470.
