Oviedo man arrested, accused of meeting child for sex
Police: Man had candy, porn in pockets
Oviedo police said they arrested a man who attempted to meet and have sex with what he believed was a child under the age of 16.
Police said investigation began about three weeks ago when an Oviedo officer, posing as a minor, posted an ad on Craigslist.
Police said 48-year-old Mark Thorpe responded to the ad and his messages with the suspected juvenile quickly turned sexual in nature.
Police said after emailing and texting the suspected child, Thorpe arranged to meet for the purpose of watching porn and having sex.
When Thorpe arrived at the arranged location, officers were waiting and took him into custody, police said.
Police said they found two pornographic DVDs and candy in Thorpe's pockets.
Police said they learned that Thorpe works for Seminole County Public Schools as a Food Service Manager. School Board officials were notified of Thorpe’s arrest and said they would take appropriate measures to ensure the safety of the students.
Thorpe was arrested and booked into the Seminole County Jail with no bond.
