Police: Cross-dressing fake nurse targeting elderly
Man accused of stealing from residents at assisted living facilities in Florida
Authorities have identified a man suspected of dressing as a female nurse and stealing from elderly residents at Central Florida assisted living facilities.
According to Winter Park police, Meko Jerran Hartfield, 29, is known to dress as a woman, wear medical scrub attire and wigs. (See surveillance photo below.)
Authorities said Hartfield wears the outfits to blend in with staff members and employees, but has not been identified as a health care worker at any of the facilities where a crime has occurred.
Investigators initially believed the suspect was a woman.
Hartfield stole a credit card, Social Security card and driver's license from a 92-year-old resident's purse at the Winter Park Towers on Sept. 11, police said.
The cards were later used in various places in Orlando and Altamonte Springs.
According to police, Hartfield also stole a wallet from an 87-year-old in the Savannah Court assisted living facility in Oviedo.

Police said he charged $4,000 at an Orlando Target.
Police are also searching for a man (pictured, right) who, they say, was with the Hartfield (pictured, left) as he was using the charge cards.
Hartfield is believed to drive an older model BMW.
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the Winter Park police or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
