The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating an accident that left a child in critical condition in Orange County on Sunday afternoon.

Troopers said 30-year-old Luis Galvan-Sanchez was backing out of the driveway at 4466 Canna Drive when he hit 3-year-old Aunjay Grice.

Sanchez told troopers he did not see the child playing behind the car, officials said.

Troopers said an uncle left Grice and an 8-year-old child unsupervised outside when the accident happened.

Troopers said Grice was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital where he was in critical condition.

A family member who answered the phone in Grice's room told Local 6 the boy was doing better Sunday night, but he's still in the Intensive Care Unit.

Troopers cited Sanchez for improper backing and having an expired driver's license.
