SANFORD, Fla. -

Sanford police have arrested a homeless man who they say was involved in 14 different burglaries in Orange and Seminole counties since 2009.

Police said William Gerod Cauthen is suspected of stealing at least $10,000 worth of property -- not including the damages to cars and homes during the burglaries.

Police said Cauthen's first burglary was in Sept. 20, 2009, and DNA evidence linked him to at least 12 burglaries, along with two more burglaries through witnesses.

Cauthen burglarized a Sanford church in the Georgetown area, said police, who added that he stole $4,000 worth of property from the church.  Most of the property was found and returned to the church and the blood evidence was sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

FDLE's evidence then produced 12 positive links to Cauthen, police said.

Cauthen is currently being held in the John E. Polk Correctional Facility under a no-bond status.
