A Umatilla man was arrested Friday and charged with stealing more than $1,500 worth of beehives and beehive equipment.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office said deputies received reports from local beehive owners that several hives, along with equipment for maintaining the hives, were missing.
Agriculture deputies said they identified Michael Meadors as a suspect, and when he was interviewed Friday, he admitted to the thefts.
Deputies said Meadors told them he was storing the stolen hives and equipment on a property where he was already keeping bees.
Deputies recovered the stolen items and Meadors was arrested and booked into the Lake County Jail. He was charged with several counts of grand theft, petty theft and trespassing on commercial horticultural property.
