A Palm Bay man and woman are credited with holding four burglary suspects at bay with a shotgun and a hammer after a late-night check on a vacant home revealed suspicious activity inside.
Nicole Lynn Doire, 28; Dectrick Aponte-Payne, 25; Douglas Lopez, 22; and Laura Lynne Schadow, 25, were arrested on burglary charges after Palm Bay police were called to a home in the 700 block of Gladys Avenue to investigate a citizen’s arrest, according to police reports.
“The homeowner actually pulled a shotgun on the suspects,” Yvonne Martinez, spokeswoman for the Palm Bay Police Department, told Local 6 News partner Florida Today. “The suspects said they were there to drink alcohol and have a good time.”
Police said the four suspects had broken into the home hours after another unsolved break-in was reported at the same residence.
The homeowner and two other people had decided to check on the home late Friday when they noticed the lights on inside, police reports said.
The homeowner got his shotgun and confronted two people while one of his companions grabbed a hammer and kept two others in a room until police arrived. Inside the home, police found holes in the walls, which had also been spray-painted, police said. One of the suspect's arms had fresh spray paint on it, police said.
Three of the four suspects confessed to the break-in before being transported to the Brevard County Jail Complex, according to police. All four were granted bond and will have court dates Nov. 27, jail records show.
