Police: Woman run over, killed by own pickup
Rockledge police investigate fatal accident
A 63-year-old woman was killed in what Rockledge police are calling an apparent freak accident after she was run over by her own Ford F-150 pickup truck.
The woman was found around 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the driveway of her Howard Street home, Rockledge police say.
The full-size pickup was still running not far from the woman’s body, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported.
"It appears to be a very strange, freak accident. The truck was still in gear and that's why we think there’s a possibility of her being struck by the truck," said Donna Seyferth, spokeswoman for the Rockledge Police Department. "Her son found her and was extremely distraught."
It was not immediately clear if the woman, identified as Patricia Roberts, was coming home or leaving when the accident happened. Police say she may have been attempted to step out of the vehicle when the truck rolled into her.
Police initially investigated the case as a homicide, believing the woman may have been shot because of the extent of her injuries.
A witness also reported seeing a vehicle speeding in the neighborhood, which sits east of Fiske Boulevard, but police said that call was unrelated.
Roberts was taken to Wuesthoff Hospital in Rockledge and was later pronounced dead, officials said.
An autopsy is expected to be conducted.
Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact police.
