Police shoot, kill man who doused himself in gasoline
Cops: Suicidal man threatened officers with scissors
St. Petersburg police fatally shot a 43-year-old man who doused himself with gasoline shortly before threatening officers with a pair of scissors.
A woman called police Sunday evening to say her son was threatening suicide.
Arthur Allen Dixon Jr. refused to let police inside. They said he was holding a lighter and threatening to ignite himself.
According to police, the officers tried negotiating with Dixon, but eventually he ran out the back door where two officers were stationed. He held a pair of scissors as he approached the officers.
Police said they warned Dixon to stop but he continued toward them in a threatening manner. Both officers fired. Dixon died at 10:18 p.m.
Officers Delvin Jones and Curtis Wright were placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, which is a standard procedure.
