VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. -

The Volusia County Supervisor of Elections said on Wednesday a possible recount could be called on a Volusia school referendum.

The school board referendum was rejected by 944 votes, with the margin being less than 0.5 percent. The referendum was for a property tax increase in Volusia County, which would have raised about $26 million a year.

Volusia County is expected to make a decision on if a machine recount will be enacted.

"We will continue to provide the best possible education for each and every student within the resources that we have for our school district," said Director of Community Information Service Nancy Wait in a release. "Specific plans and preparation for the reductions will get underway with school board workshops beginning in early 2013."
