Probe continues into death of 1-year-old boy at unlicensed Ocala day care
Kim Blanchette operated day care after being denied license, DCF says
An investigation continues into the death of a 1-year-old boy who died Saturday, a day after an apparent fall at an unlicensed Ocala day care, officials said.
The incident occurred Friday night at a home on Northeast 50th Avenue in Ocala.
According to the Florida Department of Children and Families, the day care operator, Kim Blanchette, told investigators that she let her dog out of the home when the boy fell from a chair and hit his head.
The child was airlifted to Shands Hospital in Gainesville and later died.
Blanchette was denied a license to operate a day care because of someone living in the home, the DCF said. Blanchette's husband, Oliver, was arrested on robbery charges in 1998.
The DCF said Blanchette ran the day care despite the denial from the state, and she watched up to five children.
It's not known if charges will be filed in the case.
