Red Lobster has announced plans for a new menu that will feature more non-seafood options and lower cost items, according to a report from the Associated Press.
The new menu will be launched on October 15. The company has not released specifics, but the AP is reporting that the revamped selections will include more dishes and salads for those who don't want to eat seafood. The chain, owned by Orlando-based Darden Restaurants, says a quarter of the items on its menu will be non-seafood dishes, up from 8 percent.
Red Lobster is also increasing the number of dishes that cost less than $15. The number of lower-cost entrees on the menu will rise to about 60 percent from 40 percent. According to the AP, the chain is hoping to lure back customers who have turned to cheaper, fast-food options during the rough economy.
Restaurant traffic at Red Lobster has dropped in 12 of the past 24 months.
