DeLAND, Fla. -

An inmate slipped away from a Central Florida hospital, wearing a hospital gown, a heart monitor and shackles.

Police say 23-year-old Michael Burke didn't get far. They found him Tuesday afternoon in the garage of a nearby home.

Authorities say Burke was arrested Sunday on a check forgery charge and a violation of probation in a case dealing in stolen property and grand theft.

Burke was taken to Florida Hospital in DeLand because of a medical condition.

The Orlando Sentinel reports a receptionist at a doctor's office called police to report seeing a man wearing a hospital gown and shackles in the parking lot.

DeLand police spokesman Jack Waples says Burke appeared to have a heart monitor attached to his body when they caught up with him.
