Sheriffs: Lake Alfred man charged with DUI manslaughter
Man had been "huffing" computer cleaner before crash in August, says deputies
The Polk County Sheriff's Office says they arrested a 39-year-old Lake Alfred man charged with DUI manslaughter in the death of a 14-year-old.
According to deputies, Orlando Dejesus, 14, died as a result of injuries he sustained on Aug 31, 2012, when 39-year-old Trevor Werner's vehicle traveled from the east lanes of US Highway 92, through the median, and into the path of a westbound SUV, in which Dejesus was a passenger of.
Traffic Homicide deputies said they learned through an investigation that Werner had been "huffing" computer cleaner prior to the crash that occurred in August.
Before the crash, deputies said Werner had stopped at a store located at the intersection of Havendale Boulevard and 42 Street NW in Auburndale. There, officials said he purchased a can of computer cleaner. Deputies said the crash occurred less than two miles from the store.
Toxicology results indicated the presence of chemicals associated with the canned cleaner in Werner's system at the time of the crash. According to deputies, information gathered from the crash site indicated Werner took no evasion action to avoid the crash. It appeared as though, according to deputies, Werner was unconscious when his vehicle traveled into the path of the SUV.
A warrant was issued for Werner on Friday. Werner is currently being booked into the Polk County Jail.
