ORANGE CITY, Fla. -

Volusia County Sheriff's deputies say they arrested a man who is accused of robbing a Long John Silver's in Orange City and caught less than an hour later.

Deputies said Robert Abel, 49, went to the Long John Silver's on Enterprise Road at around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night and announced that he was robbing the place. When an employee asked if Abel was serious, he lifted up his shirt to display a gun tucked in the waist of his shorts.

The employees complied and turned over money from two cash registers. Abel then ran away, deputies said. Sheriff's deputies began searching for Abel on foot and from helicopter, when the crew saw him running through a nearby neighborhood.

Abel was arrested at about 9:15 p.m. Deputies recovered a bag containing $442 and a T-shirt with two bandanas Abel wore during the robbery.

He was transported to the Volusia County Jail in Daytona Beach on charges of armed robbery, grand theft, carrying a concealed firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
