DELTONA, Fla. -

An 18-year-old Deltona man was arrested in the vicious beating of a 20-year-old, and video of the attack was posted on Facebook.

Scott Lakhan was arrested on numerous charges, including kidnapping, aggravated battery and intimidating or threatening a witness.  The man who recorded the attack, Casey Shoemaker, 22, of Deltona, faces similar charges.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, Lakhan was initially arrested last month on allegations of credit card fraud.  Deputies said he was spotted on surveillance video with the 20-year-old man using a stolen bank card.  Deputies identified the 20-year-old and in an interview, he said he had nothing to do with the theft of the card and that Lakhan claimed he found it.

On Dec. 1, Lakhan was arrested on one count of possession of a stolen bank card.

About four weeks later, the 20-year-old said he had a chance encounter with Lakhan and Shoemaker outside the Walmart on Howland Boulevard in Deltona.

During the confrontation, Lakhan wanted to know why the man snitched on him, according to deputies.  The man denied it because he was afraid, but Lakhan pulled out a copy of his written statement, deputies said.

Lakhan said he would consider the score settled if the man let him punch him in the face, deputies said.  The 20-year-old tried to get out of it, but Lakhan threatened to send several people to his house to beat him up, deputies said.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the 20-year-old agreed to walk into some nearby woods with Lakhan and Shoemaker, fearing if he didn’t then something worse would happen.

Lakhan initially acted like he was going to punch the victim in the arm, but instead punched him in the face and then followed it up with several more blows, said deputies, who added that Lakhan also kicked the victim in the face while he was on the ground.

Shoemaker recorded the attack on his cellphone in a clip that lasts nearly four minutes, deputies said.

After the beating was over, the victim said Lakhan shook his hand and said “everything was good," according to deputies.

The victim said he didn’t tell anyone about the beating and thought that was the end of it, according to deputies.  On Thursday, however, he discovered that the video had been posted on the Internet.  He then reported the incident and the Sheriff’s Office was brought in to investigate.

By Thursday night, investigators had Lakhan and Shoemaker in custody.

Shoemaker said he’s friends with both Lakhan and the victim and insisted that he didn’t want either of them to get hurt, according to deputies, who said he also claimed to try to calm Lakham and talk him out of fighting with the victim.  He said he recorded the incident in case it went too far, according to deputies.

Lakhan and Shoemaker were booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach without bond.

Investigators haven’t been able to determine who was responsible for posting the video on the Internet, but it apparently was sent to multiple people before showing up on some Facebook pages.
