A north Florida man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for fatally shooting another man outside a nightclub.
A Marion County judge sentenced 19-year-old Roderick Mitchell on Wednesday. He was convicted in July of second-degree murder.
Authorities say Mitchell fatally shot Daniel Davis Jr. outside the Gracie's Cougar Lounge in January 2011 after Davis was talking to Mitchell's girlfriend.
The Ocala Star-Banner reports that Mitchell testified that Davis was coming toward him, and he fired in self-defense.
Other witnesses testified that Davis was drunk but not threatening anyone.
