A Florida Highway Patrol trooper and a construction worker were injured Monday morning in a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 4 in Osceola County.

The FHP said a tractor-trailer, driven by Lucumy Ramirez, hit a FDOT truck and a trooper's patrol car on westbound I-4 near Osceola Parkway.

Trooper Carlos Alves-Ferrer and Christopher Elam, an employee of a private contractor working on a FDOT project, were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.   Trooper Alves-Ferrer was treated for his injuries and released from the hospital.  The big rig driver was not hurt.

The crash forced officials to close westbound lanes for a couple hours Monday morning, but troopers later reopened the interstate.

According to the FHP, the construction truck and patrol car were both stopped in the right lane of I-4 with emergency lights activated.

Troopers said Ramirez failed to stop or change lanes as he approached the vehicles.

The tractor-trailer struck the construction truck then the patrol car before it came to rest in the middle of I-4, according to the FHP.

Ramirez was ticketed for careless driving.
