UCF bans smoking, others deciding

ORLANDO, Fla. -

The University of Central Florida will be a smoke-free campus beginning in the fall semester and other local colleges are proposing a similar policy.

UCF officially announced the smoking ban late last week. It will begin Aug. 20.

There won't be any citations or punishment for violating the policy, but school leaders hope staff and students hold each other accountable.

Even without a consequence, the number of smokers on campus is expected to drop.

Daytona State College and Stetson University are now considering a ban, too.
