Volusia County, Fla. -

A Volusia County couple gave up their dream wedding to save their dog's life.

Their dog, 'Koda' came down with liver disease and his owners were forced to spend thousands of dollars, which they saved for their wedding to pay for his care.

Melanie Cannon and Eddie Hanna adopted their dog, Koda from the Halifax Humane Society in April, but Koda's health quickly took a turn for the worse.

"He had the worst liver shunt they had ever seen, which requires life saving medical attention," Jessica Yelvington with the Humane society said Thursday.

Putting Koda's needs first meant putting their wedding on hold and that's when the Humane Society decided to step in to help.

"We really commend this couple for stepping up and taking care of Koda and giving him what he needed to survive," Yelvington said.

Yelvington is the special events manager at the humane society, but she's now become the couple's wedding planner organizing everything from the flowers to
the cake.

"Hopefully on Saturday everything will come together and be one big dream wedding," Yelvington said.

Nearly a dozen different local businesses throughout Volusia County have donated their services for the couple in need.

"You give back to people who have supported us throughout the years. You have to give back, it's important," Lynne Monroe said Thursday.

Monroe and her husband own Amber's Jewel Catering in Port Orange and they are providing all the food and the venue for the couple's special day.

Koda will have to take medication for his illness for the rest of his life, but vets say he will survive. He is expected to be at the wedding on Saturday.
