Volusia deputies: Drunken man charged in gas station melee
Hess gas station clerk called man 'drunk as a skunk, deputies say
A man who Volusia County deputies say was intoxicated and angry has been arrested after shoving a store clerk, attempting to carjack a customer and fighting with a deputy at an Ormond Beach gas station.
According to deputies, Shawn Kleotzer, 29, was reported by the clerk as "drunk as a skunk" and was accosting her and her coworker at the Hess Express on South Nova Road just before 4 a.m. Friday.
The clerk then told deputies Kleotzer went to a 51-year-old's van while the victim was putting air in her tires and tried to get into the vehicle.
"She's got the car locked and he's telling her now that he's physically going to have to bring the world down and he's going to have to kill people,” the clerk told the 911 dispatcher.
The victim was engaged in a tug of war over the van door with Kleotzer until a deputy pulled up, according to the report. He then fought with the deputy as he was being arrested, yelling obscenities, deputies said.
Kleotzer was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach.
