Volusia deputies: Man makes girlfriend write $4K check at money
Man previously dragged behind truck in domestic dispute with ex-wife
A New Smyrna Beach man who was previously dragged behind a truck by his ex-wife in an altercation has been arrested after he threatened to shoot his new girlfriend if she didn't write him a check for $4,000.
54-year-old Robert Hall, who has had a lengthy domestic violence history with his ex-wife according to records, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and robbery with a firearm after the Monday incident.
Deputies said Hall's girlfriend told them she was in the bedroom of their home on High Ridge Lane packing her clothes to move out when Hall pointed a handgun to her head and ordered her to write him a check for $4,000.
As the victim was writing the check, Hall said if she didn't write it he would "kill her and bury her body with the horses," according to the report. After she gave him the check she went to the neighbor's house and called authorities.
The victim told deputies she agreed to repay Hall $5,000 several months ago, according to the report.
When authorities arrived at the home they found Hall sleeping in a chair and arrested him. Hall told deputies that the incident never occurred and his girlfriend made up the incident so she wouldn't have to repay him the money.
He has been booked into the Volusia County Jail.
