LONGWOOD, Fla. -

Winn-Dixie says "transformational" remodeling work has turned two of its supermarkets into state-of-the-art places to shop.

The location on State Road 434 in Longwood celebrates its grand re-opening Wednesday. The store on 7800 U.S. 17-92 in Fern Park will hold its celebration Feb. 22.

Winn-Dixie said the focus is on a new prepared foods section serving what it calls restaurant-quality entrees including made-to-order pizza, seven flavors of chicken
wings, barbecue bar and a carving station with fresh fish, poultry and prime
rib.

The supermarket chain said the bakeries, cheese counter, meat and seafood areas, as well as the pharmacies have all been upgraded and expanded.

Each store will also feature a Wi-Fi Internet with complimentary coffee.

Founded in 1925, Winn-Dixie is one of the nation's oldest supermarket chains, though it has struggled in recent years. It is being acquired by the much-smaller Bi-Lo chain, based in South Carolina.

Winn-Dixie shareholders are expected to approve that merger in a vote scheduled for March 9. The stores on Florida will keep the Winn-Dixie name.
