Woman Driving Home Shot, Killed In Downtown Orlando
Passenger Uninjured In Incident, Police Say
A woman was shot and killed while driving home early Thursday through downtown Orlando, and police said they're looking for a group of men in the shooting.
Victoria Straughter, 21, was shot about 2 a.m. at Garland Avenue and Pine Street, near the Orlando Police Department.
Straughter was shot at least once and taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she died. A passenger in the car was not injured.
After being shot, Straughter crashed a few blocks away, near Garland Avenue and Washington Street.
"The important thing is that we have a deceased woman who is the victim of a murder, and it's senseless and it's tragic. We're going to need the public's help and that's what we're asking for," Orlando police Lt. Barb Jones said.
Orlando police described the culprits as men in their early 20s. It's not known if they knew Straughter.
Police said they're reviewing video taken by police surveillance cameras.
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
