ORLANDO, Fla. -

An Orlando police officer shot a woman who ran him over early Wednesday morning outside a nightclub, according to authorities.

The woman, 19-year-old Emily Cox, and Officer Sergio Ramos suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the incident, which occurred about 2 a.m. at the Roxy nightclub, Orlando police said.

According to police, Cox and two women were escorted out of the Roxy after an altercation took place inside the club.  One of the women, later identified as Cox, got into her silver Nissan and tried to run over the other two, police said. She kept driving but stopped in a parking lot a few blocks from the club on East Colonial Drive.

"We don't know why she did what she did, but it's certainly not a good outcome," said Tony Rodriguez of the FDLE.

Cox faces aggravated battery with a motor vehicle charges.

Ramos and another off-duty OPD officer who were working security at the Roxy witnessed what happened and Ramos attempted to stop the driver, police said.  Cox did not slow down, however, and drove directly at Ramos, who fired multiple shots at her, police said.

Cox was struck in the upper torso and Ramos was hit by her car and his leg was run over, according to police.

Both Cox and Ramos were both taken to a hospital.

"It's actually very worrying because, like, when I was in the club there was some bustling about, so you never know what happened, really," said a British tourist at Roxy.

Roxy was hosting a "Female Free For All" on Tuesday night, where women over the age of 21 drink free until midnight.

Officials said Ramos has been with the police department for four years and is currently assigned to the Community Policing Division Parramore Bike Unit. He has been treated and released from the hospital.

Cox remains hospitalized and will be booked into the Orange County Jail upon her release, according to police.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the incident, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
