Woman splashes olive oil on TSA officer, resists arrest, police say
Authorities say woman interfered with investigation
An Orlando woman who splashed olive oil on a Transportation Security Administration officer and then interfered with officers at the Orlando International Airport on Nov. 5 was arrested, officers said.
Anafely Melendez Estrada, 38, was going through a TSA checkpoint at OIA when she splashed liquid all over a transportation security officer, officers said. The bottle of olive oil was amongst Estrada’s personal items that were going through additional screening, authorities said.
Estrada continually interjected herself into the investigation by constantly talking to the TSO whom she splashed with olive oil, police said. She was told to stop, but failed to follow instructions, officers said. Estrada was directed to sit in a chair, but instead grabbed her purse from a table, authorities said. An officer took hold of her purse and told Estrada to put it back on the table, but she failed to put the purse back on the table. The officer had to take it from her and direct her to a chair, police said.
Officers said that Estrada did not remain seated as instructed, and she was told that it was being investigated if she had committed battery against a TSO. Officers told Estrada that if she got out of her seat again that she would be arrested and charged with interfering. When the officer let go of her arm, she got up and the officer tried to arrest her, authorities said.
The officer managed to place one handcuff on Estrada’s right wrist but she continued to resist the officer. The officer struggled to gain control and direct Estrada to the ground before he was finally able to handcuff her, officers said.
Authorities said they also discovered that Estrada’s driver’s license was suspended when they asked for identification right after she splashed olive oil on the TSO.
